SAINT MARY-OF-THE-WOODS - Carol Joan Bailey Haase West, 85, passed away May 6, 2021 at Sisters of Providence St. Mary-of-the-Woods, West Terre Haute where she had been a resident for the past seven years suffering with Parkinson's Disease. She was born on November 26, 1935 to Lorenzo N. and Margaret E. McClara Bailey.

She is survived by three daughters, Janet (Tim) Cunningham of Terre Haute, Colleen (Larry) Orsak of Universal, TX, and Bonita (Kevin) Hale of Benson, NC; and three sons, Donald Haase of Benson, NC, Brian (Jill) Haase of Rosedale and Lawrence "Kevin" Haase of West Terre Haute; stepdaughter, Pamala West Godbey of Terre Haute; grandchildren, Michael Cunningham, Miranda Monzingo, Melissa Sims, Cory and Colin Haase, Jolee Jones, Brandon, Kelby and Rosco Haase, Dylan Haase, Chad Church, Mathew, Kara and Mariah West, Tammy Featherston, Kelly Fisher, Duane Godbey, Rhonda Link, Tina West, Chad and Craig West; many great and great-great-grandchildren; aunt, Daisy Hoopingarner; friend, Bill Edington; and several nieces and nephews.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Donald T. Haase; second husband, Sheldon Z. West; brothers, Gerald, Robert "Bubby" and Ronald Bailey; sons, Curtis W. Haase and Tracey E. West; grandson, Kyle T. West; and stepsons, Sheldon L. and Clifford D. West.

Family and friends called her Joan. She was a homemaker and always kept busy with raising her own eight children, nieces, nephews, and grandkids.

She was very good at canning, cake decorating, sewing, crocheting and ceramics. Joan had her own small ceramic shop and painted many gifts in her basement for family and friends. She also taught some ceramic classes at Deming Park and had a booth at the Covered Bridge Festival in Bridgeton at the Stable for many years.

She was a 4-H leader and judged lots of different projects at the Vigo County fair. Over the years, she was a member of the Miniature Club, American Legion Post 1001 in West Terre Haute, New Goshen Firehouse Auxiliary, and Square Dancing Club.

Services will be held on Tuesday, May 11, 2021 at 1:30 P.M. at Mattox-Wood Funeral Home, 4660 N. Lafayette Ave., with visitation from 11 AM until time of services. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.
