Maryville, IL - MARYVILLE, Ill. - Carol (Semler) Jinbo, 82, of Terre Haute, Indiana, left this world peacefully on May 12, 2026, surrounded by friends and family.

Born in Connersville, Indiana and growing up in New Castle, Indiana, Carol's creativity and intelligence were evident to her parents, Marion and Fern (Hollowell) Semler as they encouraged her and her siblings to pursue their education. She grew up very close to her cousins, aunts, and uncles and had many fond memories of them growing up. From teaching high school art to earning her Master's and EdS (Adult Education) and becoming a respected staff member at Indiana State University, Carol loved being in education and helping others.

While teaching high school art in Michigan, she met her match and future husband, Richard Jinbo, and they have been together ever since. They married on August 9, 1968 and have been married for 57 years.

Carol enjoyed silversmithing and jewelry making, was an avid reader and had a deep appreciation for ceramics and Japanese art.

Carol loved her family and many friends, whom she was sure to keep in regular contact with, despite life's busy schedules.

Her spunk, sharp wit, and spirit for life lifted the spirits of others, and she will be sorely missed.

She is survived by her husband, Richard; and daughter, Erika (Renae) Jinbo; and is preceded in death by her parents, Marion and Fern Semler; a brother, Thor Semler; and a sister, Kay Kearney.

A private celebration of life will be scheduled in Terre Haute, Indiana on a future date.
