Billy Gene McClain, 86, of Terre Haute, passed away at 10:30 p.m. Sunday, March 18, 2018, at Union Hospital in Terre Haute. He was a retired operator from Tredegar of Terre Haute, with 38 years of service. He was born Aug. 18, 1931, in Burnett, to the late William Allen and Vivian Marie Marques McClain.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Esther Hoffman McClain, whom he married Dec. 24, 1951, in Terre Haute; two sons, Jay (Rose) McClain of Coal Bluff and Brad (Cindy Zigler) McClain of Rosedale; daughter-in-law, Jeanna McClain of Terre Haute; brother, Gary (Sharon) McClain of Ohio; six grandchildren, Leeann McClain, Ryan (Sandy) McClain, Sarah (Chad) Goda, Kyle (Tara) McClain, Brandon McClain and Levi McClain; nine great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Jeffery Dean McClain, on Aug. 29, 2014; three brothers, Samuel, James and Alan McClain; and sister, Mary Lou Newman.

He was a 1950 graduate of Fontanet High School. He served in the U.S. Army with the 25th infantry as a staff sergeant during the Korean War. He was a member of the Fontanet Action Community Team. He enjoyed fishing, NASCAR racing and basketball.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, March 22, 2018, at Cottrell-Gooch Funeral Home, 287 N. Main Street, Rosedale, with Pastor Mark Thompson officiating. Burial with military graveside honors by American Legion Tony Kashon post 290 in Rosedale will follow in Rosedale Cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Cottrell-Gooch Funeral Home.
