William R. Hite, 101, of Terre Haute, passed away at 1:11 p.m. Sunday, March 19, 2017, in his residence. William was an electrician for Mobile Oil Refinery in Chicago and had owned several gas stations in California. He was born Aug. 9, 1915, in Terre Haute, to Lorenzo Dowell Hite and O'Tilley (Kalin) Hite.
He is survived by his wife, Marguerite (Forbes) Hite, whom he just celebrated 79 years of marriage Jan. 16. Other survivors include nieces and nephews, Ron Jennings (Erma) of Shelbyville, Ill., Pam "Pammy SueSue" Irwin of California, Judy Chamness of Terre Haute, Mike Roberts of Eden, N.C., Nancy Novak of Virginia Beach, Va., Tillie of Lewis, and Betty of Jasonville.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Beulah Jennings, Emma Schneble, and Leona Jones.
William was a US Navy Seabees during World War II and was a 75-year-member of the Santa Barbara Lodge 192 Free & Accepted Masons.
Visitation will be Wednesday, March 22, 2017, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. in Samaritan Funeral Home, 2425 Wabash Ave., with masonic memorial services at 1 p.m. in the funeral home by West Terre Haute Masonic Lodge 687 F&AM.
