Virginia Smith, 93, of Terre Haute, passed away Wednesday, May 10, 2017, at Watercrest in Orlando, Fla. She was born Sept. 5, 1923, in Vigo County to Hurvey and Rosie (Cordell) Wood.
She is survived by a son, Stanley Smith and wife Melanie of Orlando; a daughter, Vickie Strange and husband Harrison of Mahomet, Ill.; granddaughters, Lisa Strange Hogan and husband Mike of Davidson, N.C., and Christy Strange Pasnisin and husband Michael of Clermont, Fla.; two great-granddaughters, Brooke Avery Pasnisin and Skylar Kate Pasnisin, both of Clermont; and many loving extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, The Rev. James Smith Jr.; a daughter, Rebecca Lynn Smith; and a brother, Jesse Wood.
Virginia worked for many years and retired from the Terre Town School cafeteria. She was a member of the Burnett Home Demonstration Club and the Home Ec Club. She was a long time member of Mount Aetna Baptist Church, where her husband James pastored for many years.
Visitation will be held from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday, May 15, 2017, at Mattox-Wood Funeral Home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 16, 2017, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Dragon officiating. Virginia will be laid to rest next to her husband, James, in Roselawn Memorial Park. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at:
