MARSHALL, Ill. - Verna Merle Stanfield, 74, of Marshall, passed away at 5:26 p.m. Wednesday, March 22, 2017, at Union Hospital in Terre Haute, Ind. She was born Aug. 31, 1942, in St. Louis, the daughter of Jesse and Doris (Kegg) Fash. She married Donald Stanfield on Feb. 14, 2002, in West Union, Ill., and he preceded her in death on Dec. 20, 2014.
She was retired from Clark County Housing Authority. She also was formerly employed at Shore-Murphy Insurance and Eitel Dutch Building Center in Marshall.
She is survived by two daughters, Melissa (Denny) Milbourn of Marshall and Carissa (Matt) Edwards of Crystal Palace, London; one son, Mike Claypool of Marshall; two stepdaughters, Karla Strohm of Carmel, Ind., and Kimberly (Alan) Sang of Lake Mary, Fla.; eight grandchildren, Will (Allison) Milbourn, Maren Milbourn, Joshua Milbourn, Morgan Claypool, Zachary Claypool, Jacob Wallace, and Ian Wallace; four stepgrandchildren, Kaylie Sang, Ali Sang, Morgan Strohm and Carson Strohm; and three great-grandchildren, Liam, Gunner, and Lilly Milbourn; one brother, James (Pat) Fash of Dennison, Ill., and two sisters, the Rev. Penny Brown of Marshall and Susan Lowe of Terre Haute.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Brian M. Claypool; and a brother, David Fash.
She was a member of the Evening Thyme Garden Club and loved walking and reading.
Services in honor of her life will be 1 p.m. CDT Saturday at Pearce Funeral Home, in Marshall, with Brother Jeff Noel officiating. Visitation will be 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Marshall Animal Rescue Fund or American Cancer Society.
