CLAY CITY - Sharon Lee Bivens, 78, of Clay City, passed away unexpectedly June 5, 2017, at her home. Sharon was born June 1, 1939, in Sullivan, the daughter of the late Orville Leon and Mary Beatrice (Lang) Reedy.
She graduated from Hymera High School in 1957. Sharon married the love of her life, Don Lee Bivens, on Aug. 23, 1958. He passed away Oct. 22, 2010. Sharon managed the Clay City BMV License Branch until her retirement after 40 years of service.
She was a member of the Heritage Baptist Church and Clay City American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. Sharon was the recipient of the Sagamore of the Wabash Award. She was a past chairman of the Clay County Republican Party. Sharon enjoyed gardening, canning, bingo, going to the riverboat, and watching NASCAR, especially her favorite driver Rusty Wallace.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Don Bivens; and a brother, Orville Reedy Jr.
Sharon is survived by her children, Donetta (Kevin) Berlen of Clay City, and Darren Bivens of Terre Haute; grandchildren, Heather (Cody) Devore, Jason Berlen, Jeremy Bivens, Seven Bivens, Jacari Johnson, Ciara Lockett, Trevon Bivens and Lisa Nowak-Juif; great-grandchildren, Gwen Devore, Lexi Devore, Jackie Devore, Coen Bivens and Violet Juif; sister, Marjorie (Philip) Sutton; sister-in-law, Mary Bivens; aunts, Betty Miller, Freida Bose, and Lillis Raley; as well as extended family and friends.
Services will be Friday, June 9, 2017, at 11 a.m. at Schoppenhorst Funeral Home, with Pastor Steve Tyra officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday at 5 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. To leave a note of condolence visit: www.schoppenhorstfuneralhome.com
