Rose Mary Pershing, 91, of West Terre Haute, and snowbird of Bradenton, Fa., passed away Wednesday, June 28, 2017, at Union Hospital in Terre Haute. She was born Oct. 13, 1925, in Terre Haute, the daughter of Thomas and Sarah (Tyren) Brannan.
Rose graduated from Fontanet High School in Fontanet. She retired from the U.S. Department of Commerce Census Bureau and Union Hospital where she worked as a cook. Rose was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church, Fraternal Order of Eagles Post 291, Moose Lodge 1009, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 972, Wabash Valley Genealogy Club, and Western Riders Club, all of Terre Haute. She enjoyed life to the fullest and was very active until recently. Rose loved dancing, researching family history, and most of all traveling.
Rose was preceded in death by her parents; two beautiful daughters, Catherine Ann Cottom and Carol Beth Cottom; and her loving husband of 20 years, Fred Pershing, who passed away Dec. 9, 2009.
Survivors include two sons, Clark Cottom of Sullivan and Chris (Darla) Cottom of West Terre Haute; two granddaughters, Leigha and Emily Cottom; and great-granddaughter to be, Karalena. She also is survived by her dear friends, John and Joanne Sinclair of Bradenton.
She will be laid to rest in a peaceful and private graveside service at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 5, 2017, at Calvary Cemetery, in Terre Haute, with Sister Betty Hopf, S.P. officiating. Arrangements were entrusted Brust Funeral Home of Sullivan. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of Providence, in care of Mission Advancement Office, 1 Sisters of Providence Road, Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, IN 47876.
