Robert Daniel Rhoads, 93, of Terre Haute, passed away July 9, 2017. He was born March 3, 1934, in Austin, Texas. His parents were W.A. Rhoads and Carolyn (Ennis) Rhoads.
He served in the United States Navy. Bob was a retired Terre Haute City police officer, serving over 20 years on the force. He previously had worked for New York Central Railroad as an engineer. Bob was a member of the Terre Haute Fraternal Order of Police lodge, lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 972 and American Legion Post 104. He also enjoyed camping at Sullivan Lake.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis (Whitaker) Rhoads in 1991. He is survived by his sister, Janet Masters of Terre Haute; a niece, Penny Budd and her husband Daniel of Lawrenceville, Ga.; as well as three great-nephews, Daniel "Ryan" Budd, Kyle Michael Budd and Tyler Scott Budd; and a great-great-niece, Tatum Llewellyn. Cousins, Bill and Jack Ennis also survive.
Memorial services are scheduled for Friday, July 14, 2017, at 2 p.m. at Greiner Funeral Home, 2005 N. 13th Street. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 12 noon until service time Friday, at the funeral home. The Rev. Larry Spear will be officiating.
