Richard's Story

Richard "Rich" Lee McDonald, 78, of Brazil, passed away at Exceptional Living Center of Brazil, following a lengthy illness Aug. 29, 2017. Rich was born Aug. 26, 1939, in Brazil, the son of Roger and Helen (Monce) McDonald.
He graduated from Brazil High School and later from Indiana State University with a degree in Industrial Engineering. Rich served his country in the United States Navy where he served on the USS Saratoga. Rich worked for Allison's Transmission in Indianapolis before beginning his career as an industrial engineer for Public Service Indiana for 30 years. Following retirement he worked for Oak Ridge Golf Course and H & R Block. He also worked as a census worker during the last census.
Rich was a member of the Brazil and Knightsville Masonic Lodges. When he was in his 30's he completed a 26.2 mile marathon.
In his free time he enjoyed playing golf, mushroom hunting, fishing, hunting and gardening.
He was preceded in death by his son, Doug McDonald; his parents, Roger and Helen McDonald; and siblings, Fred McDonald, Bill McDonald, and Peggy McDonald.
Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Frances Kay (Grantham) McDonald of Brazil; children, Scott McDonald, Todd McDonald, Chad McDonald and Andrea Jeffries and husband Brad, all of Brazil; grandchildren, Rachel Heading (Mike) of Brazil, Doug McDonald II (Amanda Rothrock), Jennifer McDonald, and Madison Jeffries; a brother, Tom McDonald; as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family members and friends.
Visitation will be at Lawson-Miller Chapel, 1702 E. National Ave., Brazil, on Friday, Sept. 1, 2017, from 4 until 7:30 p.m. Masonic services will be at the funeral home, Friday, at 7:30 p.m. Services will be held at the funeral home, Saturday, at 1 p.m. with burial to follow at Calcutta Cemetery.
Rich's family would like to extend their appreciation to Exceptional Living Center of Brazil and Intrepid Hospice for their care of Rich during this difficult time.
