Oscar's Story

Oscar Milen Foster Sr. "Hank", 80, of Terre Haute passed away May 25, 2017. He was born Dec. 2, 1936, in Uniontown, Ky., to Brown Foster Sr. and Christabell (Taylor)Foster.
Oscar was a member of Covenant Church of Jesus Christ, where he was a deacon. He was a dedicated employee at General Housewares for over 39 years, and retried in 2002. He was a special and loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He enjoyed spending time with his family, sports, and watching his grandchildren play sports. He also enjoyed trips back home to Kentucky. He was a pitcher for the Kentucky Cardinals of Uniontown, Ky., in the 1950's where he met his wife Martha. Together in matrimony with his wife of 60 years, Martha (Compton) Foster, have five children.
He is survived by his wife; four children, Rose E. Smitley, Oscar Eugene Foster Jr., Randall Foster (Megan), and Trianito Foster (Belinda); grandchildren, Felicia Smith (Joe), Stacey Cavins (Seth), Hiawatha Taylor-Willis (Trent), Oscar Milen Foster III, Derrick Foster (Nicole), Brittany Foster, Jordan Foster, Taylor Madding, Alexis Foster, and Aliyah Foster; brother, Brown Foster Jr. (Willie Mae Foster); a host of great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and his best friend. Morris Cruse.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a child, Leslie Leon Foster; son-in-law, Robert Smitley; great-grandson, Justin D Rich; and siblings, Clarence Carter, George Thomas Wilson, Jesse Lee Foster, Della Mae Johnson, Rosemarie Blackwell-Carter, Nannie Vurkins, and Sarah Foster. Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, June 2, 2017, at Saints Home Church of God in Christ, 2210 N. 13th St., at 1 p.m. Visitation will be at the church on Friday, from 10 a.m. until service time. Pastor Clarence DeBow of Covenant Church of Jesus Christ will officiate. Burial will be at Grandview Cemetery.
