Ned's Story

Ned Ray Evans Jr., 67, of Terre Haute, passed away Sunday morning, Oct. 1, 2017, at his home with family. Neds valiant fight against cancer began June 2013, from Agent Orange in Vietnam. He was born Jan. 15, 1950, in Vigo County, to his beloved mother Jeannine Inglert Hoke and Ned Ray Evans I. Ned was a loving son, brother, father, and husband.
He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Lenora Gardner Evans (Lennie); mother, Jeannine Hoke; brother, Pat Evans and Eric Evans (Dorothy); daughter, Christy Evans (Mike Abolt); son, Ned Ray Evans III; grandchildren, Justin Yatsko, Scott Elmore (Stacey) and Madelyne Evans; stepchildren, William M. Davis, Lori Waltermire Turner (Jeff); stepgrandchildren, Emma Turner and Sophia Turner; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ned R. Evans I; and his first wife, Norma Evans.
Ned attended Fontanet, Otter Creek, and graduated in 1969 from Garfield. Ned was a U.S. Army veteran in Vietnam. Ned was an employee of Emery Winslow Scales for 40 years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Shriners, 40&8, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and Murdock Racing Club. He attended Cross Tabernacle Church. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and camper. He loved the woods. He also enjoyed golf.
In accordance with Neds wishes, he is to be cremated. There will be a celebration of life at a later date. Thanks to Dusty Dunkley, his nurse and Stacy Wilson, his CNA from Hospice. Greiner Funeral Home has been entrusted with care and arrangements.
