Merrilen I. Cooprider, 75, of Brazil, passed away May 20, 2017, at home, following a brief illness. She was born June 8, 1941, in Bridgeton, the daughter of Raymond and Ethel (Frazier) Bridgewater. She attended Bridgeton School and worked at Heritage House, Shenandoah Industries and Lear in Greencastle.
She enjoyed crocheting, bowling and talking on the phone. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Ethel Bridgewater; her husband, Drexel Cooprider; brothers and sisters, Vernon Bridgewater, Raymond Bridgewater Jr., Art Bridgewater, and Louise Dodson; and a nephew, Kenny Dodson Jr.
Merrilen is survived by her children, Allen Lee Cooprider and wife Wanda of Brazil, Raymond Cooprider of Staunton, Barbara Sutherlin and husband Gary of Brazil, Billy Cooprider of Brazil, and David Cooprider of Staunton; grandchildren, Brittnee Cooprider, James Cooprider, Nathaniel Cooprider, Kaitlyn Youngling, Daniel Fagg and wife Angie, Heather Fagg, Kali Hensley, Joshua Heichel, Justin Richardson, Matthew Shaw, Kristina Cooprider, and Kylee Cooprider; two stepbrothers, Tom Tedder and wife Karen and Bob Bridgewater and wife Mavery; a stepsister, Karen Nischon; as well as many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family members and friends.
Visitation will be at Lawson-Miller Chapel, 1702 E. National Ave. Brazil, Thursday, May 25, 2017, from 4 until 8 p.m. Services will be at the funeral home, Friday, at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Sulpher Springs Cemetery. To light a candle in her memory, visit:
