Mary's Story

Mary Elizabeth Rader, 92, of Brazil, passed away June 9, 2017, at St. Vincent Clay Hospital. She was born in Clay City, the daughter of John Cockerham and Suzanna Wheat Cockerham. She was united in marriage to Cecil Estle Rader and he passed away in 1969.
Mary worked as a cook at different restaurants in the area and enjoyed being a homemaker. She was a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church, and she always enjoyed having Ernie Rush as her pastor.
Mary enjoyed the food preparation for family holiday dinners, including oyster dressing. In years past, she read her Bible daily, but over the years, her eyesight failed her. She enjoyed her TV shows, including all sports and game shows. Her dogs and cats were her constant companions.
Survivors include her children, David Rader and his wife Vickie of Nevada, Nancy Rader of Brazil, Brenda Bussing of Brazil and Dianna Weaver and husband Ron of Staunton; sister, Mildred Whitehead of Brazil; grandchildren, John David Rader, Jeff Rader, Jana Zimmerman, Steven Caguioa (Nora), Clint Christopher Ferry and Melissa Ann Woodruff; great-grandchildren, Bryce, Jordan, Kyle, Elizabeth, Samantha, Crista, Audrey, Christine, Cassidy and Clara; a special nephew, Larry Crosley, who has helped with many things at the house; and other extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John Cockerham and Anna Cockerham Bivens; her husband, Cecil Radar; brothers, John Cockerham Jr. and Jim Cockerham; sisters, Pauline Love and Irene McDonald; and her beloved son, Tony Rader in 1990.
Services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at French Funeral Home with Mary Jo Archer officiating. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 until 8 p.m. and again Wednesday prior to services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to Bethel United Methodist Church or to the Clay County Humane Shelter. Post a note of condolence at:
