Mary Ann Day, 69, of West Terre Haute, passed away at 4:44 a.m. Friday, July 14, 2017, in Cobblestone Crossing Health Campus. She was born June 8, 1948, in Terre Haute, to Dallas "Tex" Day and Grace Delores Schaffer Day.
Mary Ann was a graduate of West Vigo High School class of 1966. She received her bachelor's degree and master's degree in education from Indiana State University. She began her teaching career in physical education at Paris High School in Paris, Ill., in 1970 and later moved to J.W. Eater Junior High School in Rantoul, Ill., where she continued to teach physical education for over 30 years retiring at the end of the school year in 2008. She started the girls basketball program at Paris High School and continued to coach for many years. She received the basketball Coach of the Year for the State of Illinois.
Mary Ann is survived by her sister, Kathy Pierce of West Terre Haute; a niece, Lea Ann Funk and her husband Charley of West Terre Haute; two great-nieces, Carlea Funk and Camryn Funk and a great-nephew, Charley Funk, all of West Terre Haute; a special friend, Angela Roop-Lawler; and many cousins, friends, and church family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and two special uncles, Robert Schaffer and Donald Schaffer.
She was a member of The King's Harvest Foursquare Gospel Church in Terre Haute.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday in Fitzpatrick Funeral Home with Pastor Dennis Leek officiating. She will be laid to rest in the family plot at Bethesda Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 until 8 p.m. Thursday and prior to services Friday.
The family suggests that if friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to The King's Harvest Foursquare Gospel Church with envelopes available in the funeral home.
