Lauralee A. Hawkins, 80, of Brazil, passed away at 5:23 a.m. July 14, 2017. She was born March 10, 1937, in Danville, Ill., the daughter of John Crawford and Courtneylee Howell Crawford of Attica. She was raised on a family farm near Attica. She attended Logan Township grade School, Attica Junior and Senior High School, the MacMurray College for Women in Jacksonville, Ill., and then later Butler University.
Lauralee worked for six years for a branch of Connecticut General Life Insurance Company in Indianapolis. During this time, she met David C. Hawkins from Bedford. They were married Sept. 3, 1961. She was an active member of the Jackson Township Better Homes Extension Club and held several offices; member of the Clay County Extension Homemakers Council and held several County offices and served on the Clay County Extension Board. She was a member of the Union United Methodist and had attended the First Presbyterian Church in Brazil.
Survivors include her three children, Richard Hawkins and wife Jennifer, Leanna Courtney and husband Chris, and John Hawkins and wife Amy; grandchildren, Trevor Courtney, Colin Courtney, Sydney Hawkins, Jace Hawkins and Alex Swaim; brother, Howard Crawford and wife Cynthia of Attica; sister-in-law, Janet Endris of Bedford; several nieces, nephews and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, David Hawkins; and her sister, Maelinda Sue Crawford.
The family suggests that if friends so desire, donations be made in her memory to the Jackson Township Better Homes Extension Club, C/O Martha Knox 5799 N. Co. Rd. 300 E, Brazil, IN. 47834.
