Kenneth's Story

PARIS, Ill. - Kenneth James Whitkanack, 76, of Paris, passed away at 1:45 p.m. Sunday, May 28, 2017, at the home of his son in Paris. He was retired after over 30 years as a teacher at Vincennes University, and also served as chair of the Printing Department for many years.
He was born Feb. 16, 1941, in Paris, the son of the late Orval and Edith (Hancock) Whitkanack. He married Beverly Ann Scott on June 23, 1963, in Marshall. She preceded him in death Jan. 22, 2017.
Survivors include three children, Gwen (Sean) Montgomery of Decatur, Gregg (Camilla) Whitkanack of Paris, and Kay (Carter) Whitkanack Crouch of Terre Haute, Ind.; two sisters, Betty Joan Trine of Paris and June Snyder of Chrisman; six grandchildren, Zachary, Jesse, Raelee, Allison, and Heather Crouch, and Alayna Whitkanack; two great-grandchildren, Kaylinn and Elleanna Crouch; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.
Mr. Whitkanack earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in Graphic Arts Education from Indiana State University. He was a devoted member and former elder of Lake Ridge Christian Church of Paris, had attended Vincennes Free Methodist Church for many years, and was a former member and superintendent of the Free Methodist Church of Lawrenceville. He enjoyed building things, playing horseshoes, collecting old tools, and working with old tractors. He especially loved spending time with his family and friends, and was happiest when worshipping his Lord.

Services celebrating his life will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. CDT Saturday, June 3, 2017, at Templeton Funeral Home in Paris, with Pastor Nate Alexander and the Rev. James Whitkanack officiating. Burial will follow in Edgar Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral.
