Joyce E. McKean, 81, of Brazil, passed away April 21, 2017, at her son's home. She was born July 22, 1935, in Reelseville, the daughter of the late Charles and Helen (Beaman) Gilman.
She married the love of her life, James O. McKean, on Nov. 1, 1952. He preceded her in passing on Oct. 12, 2013. Joyce was a member of the Reelsville High School graduating class of 1953. She had worked at Paitson Hardware in Brazil. In her free time she enjoyed motorcycle rides with her husband, cooking for family gatherings, sewing, and watching sports; especially IU Basketball and Chicago Cubs Baseball.
Joyce was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, James McKean; her daughter, Faith Hayes; her brother, Ernest Gilman; and her parents.
She is survived by her son, James "Brent" McKean and wife Mary "Angie" McKean of Terre Haute; son-in-law, Donald B. Hayes of Knightsville; grandchildren, Josh McKean and Coty McKean of Terre Haute; great-grandchildren, Madison Hastings, Bailee McKean, Raelynn Bradford, and Ryder McKean; great-great-granddaughter, Grayliegh Jo Hastings; siblings, Kenneth Gilman and wife Becky; sister-in-law, Mary Gilman; as well as extended family and friends.
Service will be Tuesday, April 25, 2017, at 12 noon at Lawson-Miller Chapel. Burial will follow at Croy's Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home. To leave a note of condolence, visit:
