John L. Yowell, 82, of Sullivan, Mo., passed away Monday, June 5, 2017, at Meramec Nursing Center, in Sullivan, Mo. John was born Jan. 31, 1935, in Rosedale, to his loving parents, Leroy and Lois [Miller] Yowell.
John grew up attending school in Terre Haute; graduating from Garfield High School in 1953. As a young man, John worked for Coca-Cola. As he grew older, John began what would be a 43-year long career as an over the road truck driver. On Oct. 24, 1987, John and Joyce Lowery-Bartolotta were united in marriage in Stanton, Mo. In 1992, John retired from the Roadway Trucking Company. John and Joyce lived in Cloverdale, until 1998, and then moved back to Sullivan, Mo. John and Joyce attended church together at Temple Baptist in Sullivan, Mo., and John was baptized in 2000.
John had many hobbies and many things that he enjoyed doing together with his wife. They enjoyed their trips to Branson, Mo., gardening and canning. He loved mowing, cattle, sports (NASCAR), John Grisham novels and the Cardinals; however, he was still loyal to his Indiana teams.
John will be missed deeply by his extensive family members and friends.
John is survived by his wife, Joyce [Lowery-Bartolotta] Yowell of Sullivan; three daughters, Cheryl Cash and husband Earl, Karen Fisher and husband James, and Jill Webster, all of Terre Haute; two stepsons, Tom Bartolotta and wife Lori, and Jeff Bartolotta, all of Sullivan; one stepdaughter, Tammy Krueger and husband Kelly of Sullivan; stepmother, Grace Yowell; one brother, Paul Yowell and wife Marie of Indianapolis; one sister, Jackie Harris of Clinton; 27 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
John is preceded in death by his son, John Yowell Jr.; his parents; one grandson, Logan Rennick; two great-grandchildren, Ty and Jade; four sisters, Jean Brady, Betty Thompson, Eileen Burton and Darlene Medcalf.
Mr. Yowell's funeral service will be 12 noon Friday, June 9, 2017, at Temple Baptist Church in Sullivan, Mo., with interment in I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Sullivan, Mo. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until services Friday, June 9, 2017, at the church. All arrangements are under the care of Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan and Bourbon, Mo.
