CARLISLE - Jerry L "Jed" Walker, 75, of Carlisle, passed away at his residence on Monday, July 2, 2017. He was born in South Bend, on Nov. 2, 1941, the son of John L. Walker and Charlotte Wells Walker.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Gary Walker.
Jed was a devoted family man with a great love for his church. He loved life and will be remembered for his big laugh and infectious smile. He was an Army veteran, retired from Specialty Blanks Inc. of Terre Haute, worked at Peabody Coal Mine, was the fire chief for the Carlisle Fire Department for 14 years, was a member and trustee for the Indian Prairie Baptist Church. He owned J & J Crafts and Canes, the Shell Station in Carlisle, and the King Kone ice cream parlor in Carlisle.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Judy Meeks Walker, whom he married June 3, 1967; one son, Johnny Lane Walker (Rob Veras) of Indianapolis; two daughters, Jennifer Lynn Bunn (Zach) of Dekalb, Ill., Julie Lynn Morgan (Chad) of Oaktown; three grandchildren, Aspen Morgan, Brandon Short and Alexis Bunn; sisters-in-law, Gloria Meeks, Elizabeth "Tib" Moody (Harold); brothers-in-law, Jake Meeks (Angela), Jerry Fallin, Bob Meeks (Sue) and Cecil Meeks (Kim); and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 6, 2017, at the Indian Prairie Baptist Church, in Carlisle, with Pastor Tim Ferree and Pastor Adrienne Greene officiating. Visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. Wednesday at the church, and from 11 a.m. until services Thursday, church. Burial in the Indian Prairie Cemetery.
