James Earl Shelton, 75, of Terre Haute, passed away March 23, 2017. He was born in Terre Haute, Indiana, on Nov. 21, 1941, to Guy and Ida Mae Shelton. Soon after graduating high school, he joined the Marine Corps to serve his country. He retired from the Electrical Union Local 725 after 35 years of service.
He was an avid poker player and gambler, and would take frequent trips to Vegas, Tunica or French Lick. When the weather was nice, he looked forward to going mushroom hunting. He was a member of the Greater Terre Haute Bowler Association since 1987. More than anything, though, he loved spending time with his family.
Jim was preceded in death by his two infant babies; parents; sister; brother-in-law; sister-in-law; daughter-in-law; niece; mother-in-law and father-in-law.
He is survived by his wife of over 53 years, Judy; son, Perry; grandchildren, Kali (Nygel), Melissa (Juan), Matthew (Lyndsey) and Gary (Becky); and several great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews; and two brothers-in-law, Bill and Rich Byers.
A visitation will be held at Roselawn Funeral Home from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Monday, March 27, 2017. A funeral service will follow at the funeral home at 2 p.m. He will be laid to rest at Roselawn Memorial Park.
