James Maurice Magnett, 82, of Seelyville, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 16, 2017, at his home. He was born Aug. 18, 1934, in Goldsmith, Ind., to William Rayburn and Grace (Holiday) Magnett.
Jim is survived by his daughters, Jody Lewellen and husband Phillip of West Lafayette and Jamie Brown of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Quentin Magnett, Elizabeth Brown, Brian Lewellen, Nicholas Lewellen, and Emily Lewellen; special friends, Donna Gibson and Nellie Roe; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; twin sister, Janice Fetcher; sister, Miriam Fletcher; and brother, Aubrey Magnett.
Jim grew up in Tipton County. He proudly served in the United States Army. During his time in the Army, he was a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne Division, stationed in Fort Campbell, Ky. He attended IUPUI and became a certified mechanical engineer. He worked as an estimator and draftsman for Tri Industries. Jim owned and operated Seelyville Liquor Store for many years. He was extremely athletic. He played tennis, was an avid runner, and participated in many triathlons. He enjoyed math and tutored in his spare time. Jim was an avid Purdue Boilermakers fan.
Visitation will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 22, 2017, at Roselawn Funeral Home. Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, at the funeral home. Jim will be laid to rest at a later date at Roselawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Meals on Wheels or the American Legion.
