James Edward "Jim" Lewis, 64, of St. Mary-of-the-Woods, passed away at 5:45 a.m. Tuesday, March 14, 2017, at Union Hospital in Terre Haute. He was born Nov. 16, 1952, in Louisville, Ky., to Col. James E. Lewis and Norvella Cash Lewis.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Ashley Lewis Rogers and Justin Rogers of Terre Haute; a sister, Dorothy "Ann" Morgan; two grandchildren, Emerie Rogers and Phenix Rogers; an uncle, Bill Lewis; nieces and nephews, Brent Morgan (Yvette) of Terre Haute, Jimmy McQuilkin (Karen) of Lacomb, La., Howie McQuilkin (Kathy) of Terre Haute, Sandy McQuilkin of Lacomb, Sherry Witham (Craig) of Terre Haute, and Lynn Henry (Billy Joe) of Terre Haute; and many great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Barbara "Jan" McQuilkin; and a close friend, Donna Makarek.
Jim was also known as "Jeff Johnson" via a Facebook page that he initially made just to play games and it evolved into a family joke as he continued to add family as Facebook friends. He was a NASCAR fan with his favorite driver being Tony Stewart. He had a Harley Davidson at one time and always enjoyed riding.
He chose cremation and agreed that his daughter and son-in-law would take him on his first trip to Sturgis with his ashes on their Harley. A celebration of life service will be 3 p.m. Monday in The Bridge Church, 1901 8th Ave., Terre Haute, with Pastor Billy Joe Henry officiating. Visitation will be 1 p.m. until service time at the church. The family suggests that if friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Terre Haute Humane Shelter.
