Glenn's Story

Glenn Walter Blackburn, 91, of Terre Haute, passed away on Thursday, June 15, 2017, at Union Hospital. He was born on June 15, 1926, in Vigo County, to Bernard A. and Ethel L. (Berry) Blackburn. He married his high school sweetheart, Joyce R. O'Rourke, on July 26, 1946.
Glenn is survived by his wife of 70 years, Joyce Blackburn of Terre Haute; a son, Michael J. Blackburn and wife Luanne of Indianapolis; a daughter, Diane Cox and husband Greg of Brownsburg; grandchildren, Mary Cole and husband Zach of Allen, Texas, Joshua Blackburn and wife Janiece of Indianapolis, Lucy Blackburn of Indianapolis, and Caleb Cox of Brownsburg; two great-grandchildren, Ben and Samantha Cole; two brothers, Marion Blackburn and wife Pam of Danville, Ill., and Bernard Blackburn Jr. of Philadelphia, Penn.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Bob Blackburn; and sisters, Maxine Cromwell and Norma Robison.
Glenn served in the United States Navy during WWII. He was stationed on an aircraft carrier in the 3rd Fleet on the Pacific Ocean. After his military service, he went to college to pursue his education. He earned his bachelor's degree in mathematics and industrial arts. Glenn and Joyce worked together at the original Terre Haute Brewing Co. He later went to work for Allis Chalmers and CBS. He retired from Sony DADC.
In his spare time, Glenn enjoyed working on cars and collecting coins, stamps and other memorabilia. He enjoyed going boating and fishing. Glenn loved to watch baseball and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. Most of all, Glenn enjoyed the time he spent with his wife and family. He will be truly missed.
Visitation will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 18, at Roselawn Funeral Home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, at the funeral home. Glenn will be laid to rest in Roselawn Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the Terre Haute Humane Society. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at:
