Gladys Marie Nichols, 88, of Terre Haute, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2017, at Cannon Inn. She was born on Aug. 11, 1928, in Vermillion, Ill., to Perry Oliver and Ruby Esther (Lee) Rhoden. She married James Nichols on May 10, 1947.
Gladys is survived by her children, Tim Nichols and wife Stephenna of Zionsville, and Pamela Nichols of Terre Haute; six grandchildren, Dylan, Devon, Tierney, Clint, Travis and Brooke; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 65 years, James Nichols; sister, Ruth Albin; and brother, Ronald Rhoden.
Gladys retired after 20 years of teaching for the Vigo County School Corp. Gladys and her sister, Ruth, owned and operated a beauty shop for over 20 years together. She was a longtime member of Maple Avenue United Methodist Church. In her spare time, Gladys enjoyed gardening, especially growing flowers, and mushroom hunting. She also liked to crochet. Most of all, Gladys cherished the time she spent with her family. She will be deeply missed.
Visitation will be held from noon until 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 12, at Roselawn Funeral Home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev.
