Gerald L. "Gabe" Auterson, 76, of Terre Haute, passed away at 7:45 p.m. Sunday, March 12, 2017, at Springhill Village in Terre Haute. He retired as a mechanical specialist from McDonald Douglas/Boeing after many years of service. He was born March 8, 1941, in Terre Haute, to Robert Allen Auterson and Bonnie Marie Fleming Auterson.
Survivors include a brother, Marion "Chuck" Auterson; two sisters-in-law, Barbara Jean Auterson and Jeanette Auterson; and many loving and caring nieces and nephews including Carol Scurlock and Tony Auterson who cared for him in his last years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Emma Auterson Giliberto and Dorothy Auterson Skelton; and five brothers Art, Norman, Harold, Don, and Oscar Auterson.
He served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the American Legion.
The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff and caretakers at Springhill Village for the special care they provided to him, bringing him Hershey candy bars, his mountain dew, and singing to him.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday in Fitzpatrick Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Fleschner officiating and military rites provided by the Vigo County Veterans Honor Guard. Cremation has been scheduled after services. Visitation will be 11 a.m. until service time Saturday. The family suggests that if friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Terre Haute Humane Society with envelopes available in the funeral Home.
