FORT MYERS, Fla. - Estrellita Ashby, 73, passed away Saturday, March 4, 2017, at the Gulf Coast Medical Center in Fort Meyers, Fla. She was born on Aug. 31, 1943, in Manilla, Philippines, to the late Candido and Celerina Vergara.
Estrellita married Tony Ashby May 21, 1967, and became a United States citizen on Dec. 9, 1975. She was a master's level social worker, and devoted her career to helping the developmentally disabled.
Estrellita was preceded in death by her mother-in-law, Helen Ashby; father-in-law, Takuma Ashby; and brother, Delfin Vergara.
Survivors include husband, Tony Ashby, Terre Haute; brothers, Hector Vergara, Portland, Ore., Roberto Vergara, Chicago, Emming Vergara, Chicago, and Arsenio Vergara, Manila; sisters, Esperanza Casinina, Manila, and Maria Fe Zieschank, Munich, Germany; sisters-in-law, Donna Campbell, Galena, Mo., and Louise Morris, Brazil; and several nieces, nephews and other extended family.
A mass of Christian burial will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 30, 2017, at Moore Funeral Home, 142 N. Washington St., Brazil. The family will accept friends for visitation on Thursday from 5 p.m. until the time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Clay County Humane Society.
