Erika Auguste Juliane Strahla, 88, of Seelyville, Indiana, passed away at Union Hospital, April 16, 2017.
She was born Jan. 25, 1929, in Herne, Germany, the daughter of Ernst and Margarete (Kadur) Frontzek. She graduated from high school in Germany and immigrated to the United States as a young adult. She married John Strahla on Dec. 12, 1959. Erika worked for US Baking and Pillsbury, in Seelyville, for many years.
She was a member of many organizations including the Riley American Legion Post 328, West Terre Haute Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6574, German Oberlander Club and Outdoor Recreation Club.
Erika was preceded in death by her parents, Ernst and Margarete Frontzek.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, John Strahla; a son, Kevin Strahla and wife Michelle of Brazil; four grandchildren, Halee Strahla, Kevin Jacob Strahla, Duke Strahla and Alexis Strahla; and many nieces, nephews and other family members in both the United States and Germany.
Services will be at Schoppenhorst Funeral Home, 301 E. Eighth St., Clay City, Indiana, at 1 p.m. Friday, April 21, 2017. Cremation will follow with burial at Sanders Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 11 a.m. Friday until the time of services.
