Eleanor V. Stephens Carmichael, 97, of Robinson, Ill., died at 8:42 a.m. Wednesday, July 26, 2017, at Magnolia Center, Crawford Memorial Hospital, Robinson, following a period of declining health. Born May 28, 1920, in Mattoon, Ill., she was the daughter of William Henry and Matilda Ellen (Fulk) Ash. On March 25, 1939, she married Robert Earl Stephens, and he preceded her in death on June 10, 1979. She married John M. Carmichael and he preceded her in death in 1998.
Eleanor worked at the Palestine Index Store, Palestine, Ill., Bobby Pin Factory, Hutsonville, Ill., and Palestine, Crawford Electronics, Robinson, and Lexel Industries, Hutsonville. She was a member of the First Christian Church, Hutsonville, for 72 years. Eleanor was a local artist in acrylic and oil paintings.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Robert K. Stephens and Shirley A. Stephens, Robinson; a daughter, Jean Pestoff, Terre Haute, Ind.; a sister, Alma D. Hughes, Parker, Colo.; grandchildren, Mary and Tony Gray, Jo and Steve Austin, Cathy McCullough, Phoebe and Steve Hicks, Jon Stephens, Kimberly and Dean Edrington, Kyrah and Tom Buchanan, Rob and Paula Baldwin and Tammy and Matt McDaniel.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Robert Earl Stephens and John Carmichael; and two brothers, William Franklin Ash and Robert Preston Ash.
Funeral services were Saturday, July 29, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. CDT at Pulliam Funeral Home, Hutsonville, with Pastor Tom Buchanan officiating. Visitation was Friday, July 28, 2017, at the funeral home. Burial was in Hutsonville Cemetery, Hutsonville.
