Dorothy C. Bowles of Naples, Fla., passed away a week before her 99th birthday on Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2017, with her loving family by her side at the Brookdale North Naples. She was born on March 7, 1918, in Indianapolis. A lifelong resident of Indiana, she first moved to Bonita Springs in 1998, and six years ago moved to Brookdale in Naples. She and her late husband, Howard, had wintered here since 1974 coming from Pimento, Ind.
She was a graduate of Oaklandon High School in Oaklandon, and was a member of the Methodist Church. A farmer's wife, she helped her husband operate their dairy farm in Indiana and raised their two children. Dorothy was a member and Past Worthy Matron of the Pimento 516 Order of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Carolyn B. (William P.) Kelly of Kensington, Md.; two grandchildren, Katherine K. (Marc) Leon of Alexandria, Va., and Christopher E. Kelly of Kensington; two great-grandchildren, Ian and Evan Leon; her youngest sister, Barbara Templin of Altamonte Springs, Fla.; many cherished nieces, nephews and their families; and her beloved caregiver of five years, Jennifer Graham.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard E. Bowles, who died in 2013; her son and daughter-in-law, Donald H. Bowles and Barbara N. Bowles who died in 1961 as the result of an automobile accident; and a grandson, William P. Kelly, Esq. who died in 2013.
Services for both Dorothy and Howard will be held in late August at Highland Lawn Cemetery in Terre Haute.
