David Ray Foster, 72, of Terre Haute, passed away Saturday, Feb. 18, 2017, while visiting Metropolis, Ill. David was born on March 3, 1944, in Marion, Ky., to James Foster and Wilma Davenport Foster. David was a contractor, having worked for Hartmann Roofing, Paitson Brothers, Laughrey Roofing and siding during his career. David was a graduate of State High School and attended Ivy Tech Community College. David was a member and past master of the Shelburn Masonic Lodge #369, Rosedale American Legion #290 and Cruisers Club Chapter 20, and was the host of the Terre Haute Past Facebook page with over 3000 followers. The Terre Haute Past page was the host of hundreds of historic photos of Terre Haute and the Wabash Valley area. David enjoyed fishing, hunting, motorcycle riding, gardening and flowers, and especially enjoyed spending time with his daughter and grandson.
David was preceded in death by his parents, James and Wilma Davenport Foster; and a brother, Donald Eugene Foster. He is survived by one daughter, Melissa Foster Payne and her husband Daniel of Westfield, Ind.; one sister, Shirley Foster Kibler of Terre Haute, Ind.; and a grandson, Brady Parson. He is also survived by his former wife, Sue Larimer Summers; as well as several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Memorial services will be held at 6 p.m. at Greiner Funeral Home, 2005 N. 13th St., Terre Haute, Ind., with Pastor David Smith officiating. A gathering of family and friends will be from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Masonic Lodge #369 will conduct memorial services at at 5:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
