Craig's Story

Text size

CLINTON - Craig John Beatty, 50, of Clinton, passed away Sept. 12, 2017, in his residence. He was born May 14, 1967, in Terre Haute, the son of the late Carl and Mary Catherine Craig Beatty. He attended Sacred Heart Parochial Schools, South Vermillion High School, Indiana State University, and took classes at Rose Hulman Institute.
Craig was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Clinton. He experienced many health issues during his life, due to having been diagnosed with Juvenile Type 1 diabetes at the age of nine.
The onset of such left him with many limitations, to an extent, yet, in grade school, he was a river level reader at the Wabash River bridge in Clinton and submitted the report each day, prior to going to school. In later years, he became a member of the Penske Racing Team, affiliated with the Indianapolis 500 Race as a mechanical analyst. Further health issues became crucial and he became a research patient at Indiana University Endocrinology and Diabetic Center. Most recently, he was undergoing treatment via stem cell research for cancer. He conveyed that what he was undergoing would not help him but the findings may help other patients in the future.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Carl Michael Beatty.
Craig is survived by his daughter, Rainie Beatty-Robinson and Todd, a cherished granddaughter, Iris Rain Robinson; his childhood friends, Lee J Gillio, Carolyn Gillio, and Mrs. Dorothy Gillio; his godmother, Donna Dick-Hollingsworth; uncle, Roy Hollingsworth; cousin, Andrew Hollingsworth; and Beatty and Craig cousins in the area. He also appreciated the concern shown by his neighbors, Bobby Gemmecke, Doug Garinger, Mrs. Diane Pitchkites, and Tony Nixon; and the love and companionship of his cats.
Per his wishes, cremation has been chosen with Frist Funeral Home assisting with arrangements. A Memorial Mass will be held on Thursday, Sept. 21, 2017, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Clinton, 558 Nebeker St., at 10:30 a.m., with Father Varghese Maliakkal officiating. Family and friends will be graciously welcomed. Online condolences may be made at:
