Chef Jack's Story
It is with tremendous sorrow that the family of Chef Jack Alexander Daniel (Scot) announces his passing on the morning of Sept. 11, 2017.
Chef Jack Daniel graduated high school from West Vigo in 1981. He attended Vincennes University to study culinary arts, graduated Summa Cum Laude at Johnson & Wales from the Culinary Arts program. He participated in the Italian Culinary Experience through the French Culinary Institute of America where he spent six months traveling Italy and learning about their regional cuisine. Jack was also a member of Bethany United Church of Christ and Sigma Pi Epsilon fraternity.
Chef Jack Daniel has worked at various businesses in the food industry. One of his greatest experiences was working as a chef on private yachts. He also provided catering to VIP jets that landed in Tampa Executive Airport, Florida. He has met several famous people and celebrities throughout his career. Recently, he had been developing and revitalizing his grandmother's herb farm and restaurant to complete his vision of a farm-to-table restaurant and bakery that would feature slow-cooked Italian cuisine. He had also enjoyed selling his produce and breads at the Farmer's Market in Terre Haute.
Chef Jack Daniel was preceded in death by his grandparents, John and Martha Daniel and Carson and Ruby Long. He is survived by his parents, Marilyn Long Daniel and John Daniel; his sister, Elissa Daniel Samuels (Steve); his nephew, Dylan E. Shank (Miranda); great-niece, Lyric Braylan Shank; his special great-nephew, Thomas Alexander Shank; step great- nephews, Devon and Jayden Luker; his beloved cat and companion, Tigger, and special caregiver, dear friend and cousin, Janet Hardisty. His family would like to recognize his close and lifelong friends, David Decker, Terry Eldredge, Daniel McGlone and Paul Crafton. His family would also like to recognize two friends that had a great influence on his life, Victor Maung and Steve Demas.
A Celebration Of Life service will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, 2017, in Bethany United Church Of Christ, 201 W. Miller Ave., West Terre Haute, with Pastor Norris A Keirn officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks if desired that donations be sent to Wabash Valley Hospice, Bethany United Church of Christ, or Providence Food Pantry. Care and arrangements have been entrusted to Fitzpatrick Funeral Home. Contact online at:
