Charlene K. Houpt passed away Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2017, at Union Hospital, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
She was born on July 16, 1948, in Terre Haute, to the late Virginia Whippo and Lawrence Clifford Ramer. Charlene worked various places throughout her career and spoke fondly of her memories with Pizza Hut.
Charlene retired and lived at Brownstone Manor Senior Apartments, where she enjoyed the friendships and activities. She also loved creating plastic canvas art as well as crocheting.
She is survived by her daughter, Angela Gilbert Houpt (Kunta Smith) of Terre Haute; a stepson, Robert Houpt of Indianapolis; a granddaughter, Brittany (Wyatt) Dunkley of Terre Haute; grandsons, Jordon Weil of Terre Haute and Isaiah Sons of Riley; great-grandchildren, Zaine and Piper Dunkley; a special granddaughter, Jamie; a brother, Paul (Vicki) Ramer; cousins; and nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held for family and friends at 5 p.m. EST on Tuesday, Aug. 22, at Brownstone Manor, 66 S. 12th St., Terre Haute, Ind. In her honor, purple can be worn.
In lieu of flowers, there will be envelopes at the memorial to help family with expenses, or do a kind deed in her honor.
