Callie's Story

Text size

The sun rose over Todd County Oct. 25, 1932, and a beautiful angel was born, who was named Callie Loretta Young, to the late Joseph and Sally Young. At a young age Callie professed her faith in Christ. The sun set Feb. 15, 2017, when God called his angel home.
Callie attended Allensville Public School in Allensville, Ky. She was united in holy matrimony with the late James Douglas Smith for 55 years. From this union they were blessed with four children, Ray A. Smith, Anna G. Cooper (late Victor), Ceasar Smith (Gwendolyn) and LaVaunt Smith (Phyliss), all of Terre Haute.
Callie was a military spouse, which meant she traveled to foreign countries and throughout the United States. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and dear friend.
She leaves behind to cherish her memories, one brother, Walter Young (late Mattie) of Guthrie, Ky.; nine grandchildren, Seasha Holmes (Wendell), Ray Smith II (Elaine), Brandon Johnson, Cameron Smith, Hashim Cooper, Victor Cooper, Stephine Cooper, Ceasar Smith II and Ciara Smith; 12 great-grandchildren, Chelse, Nathan, Ray III and Jarod (Smith), Dominiece, (Cooper), Victor (Cooper), Tryan Crawford, Imarie, Imer, LaNiceon (Holmes), Ceasar Smith III and Anijah Brewer; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Lorine and Willie Holmes of New Haven, Conn., Maxine and late (Fredrick Morrow) of West Haven, Conn., and Pauline and Owen Edwards of Pontiac, Mich.
The Smith family would like to extend their appreciation and thanks to Springhill Rehabilitation, hospice, Angie, Jamie and Holly, also caregiver Tammie Akers.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, 2017, in Mount Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church. Calling will be from 9 to 11 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Russell Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.
