Betty Gwendolyn Stephens (Smith), 85, peacefully left this world to be with our Lord on Tuesday morning, May 30, 2017. Betty was born to Albert and Helen Smith on New Year's Day 1932, in Terre Haute, Indiana.
Having lived most of her life in extraordinarily good health, she began to show decline for some months prior to her death.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Judy Smith and Sharon Mount; and half brother, Ted Needham; stillborn daughter; and grandson, David Jones.
She is survived by a brother, Sam Smith of Mesquite, Nev.; three sisters, Norma Switzer of Las Vegas, Nev., Donna Pearson of West Terre Haute, Indiana, and Margie Odom of Arlington, Texas; sons, Andy Stephens and Tom Combs; and daughters, Paula Jones, Annie Vondohlen, Donna Davis, Teresa Smith and Belinda Stephens. She leaves behind 23 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Her legacy of tolerance and love lives on in those that knew and loved her. And though she will be deeply missed, we will be sustained by the many joyous memories of times spent with this very special womanwho was intelligent, funny and generous beyond measure. And our joy is also in knowing that our parting ways is only but for a season.
A celebration of life in her honor will be Saturday, June 3, 2017, in rural Marshall, Illinois.
