MARSHALL, Ill. - Alpha Berniese Morgan of Marshall, passed away at Heartland Manor Nursing Center in Casey, Ill., on March 26, 2017. She was born in rural Clark County, Ill., on July 21, 1927, to David and Kathryn Serwise Walker.
She married Arvie Glenn Morgan Jr. on Sept. 3, 1944. They were married more than 60 years before his death in 2004. Together they owned and operated Morgan Plumbing for over 40 years.
Alpha was very active in the family farm working alongside the men lending a helping hand, doing whatever needed to be done. She preferred being outside mowing and working in the yard and always planted a large garden-canning or giving away the proceeds. Alpha will be remembered as simply "Granny" to many.
She is survived by four children, Creta Burns, Gary (Debra) Morgan, Jerry Joe (Debra) Morgan and Alfred (Marianne) Morgan, all of Marshall; grandchildren, Brian Burns, Lori Burns, Brad (Ann) Burns, Breanna Morgan, Gretchen (Brad) Maynard, Mitchell (Sarah) Morgan, Michelle (Jay) Huffington, Aman (Becky) Morgan, Ben (Christy) Morgan, Alisa Morgan, Shelby Morgan and Abby Morgan; several great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild; two sisters, Pearl Poynter of Indianapolis and Esther (George) Mann of Maryville, Tenn.; brother-in-law, Howard B. Wallis of Tampa, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, Glenn David Morgan; a daughter-in-law, Edna Garner Morgan; a son-in-law, Gene Burns; a grandson, Brooks Burns; a brother, Bernard (Bud) Walker; and sisters, Opal Royer, Margaret Tharp, Josephine Carr Kaufman, Anonia Franco and Rose Wallis.
Services in honor of her life will be 1:30 p.m. CDT Wednesday at Pearce Funeral Home with burial following in the Clarksville Cemetery. Visitation will be 11 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.
