William O. "Bill" Lisman, 87, passed away at Miller's Merry Manor in Sullivan, Indiana, on July 10, 2018.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Merse and Kathryn Lisman; his sister, Anna Haltom; and by the love of his life and wife of 56 years, Rhonda, in 2008.
Survivors include his four children, Jaime "Fuzz" Lisman (Jeanna), Kathy Matlock (Gene), John Lisman (Denise) and David Lisman (Jes); his grandchildren, Kristina Burns, John David Lisman, Jenna Lisman and James Lisman; and also Andrea Spires, Ryan Kinnet, Dravin Scott, Alexis Hampton and Brianna Hampton. He is also survived by his sisters, Betty Feldmeyer, Virginia Knotts, Gail Rollins, Carolyn (Rex) Harcourt and Patty (Richard) Brummet; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Bill was born and raised in Sullivan County, and considered it "God's Country." He graduated from New Lebanon High School in 1949. Bill served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Bill was a farmer his entire life and worked for many years for the Farm Bureau Co-op. In 1981 Bill was injured in a disabling work-related accident.
Bill enjoyed a good baseball game, horse racing and draft horse sales. He was a man of simple pleasures: a home-cooked meal, a country drive or quiet times with his family.
Bill was an example to all who knew him of how to live a good life. His strength, work ethic, and kind and caring nature defined him.
He will be greatly missed by his family, but we take comfort in the certain knowledge that he is with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and reunited with his beloved wife, Rhonda.
The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank-you to Dr. Matt Dupre; Dr. A.J. Deshpande; the entire staff at Miller's Merry Manor, from the administrators, nurses, aides, dining, house cleaning, laundry and maintenance; and to Kindred Hospice. Your care, kindness and compassion made a difference in Dad's life.
Services for Bill will be at Holmes Memorial Chapel in Sullivan, Indiana. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Friday, July 13, 2018. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Barbara Allen officiating. Burial will be at Mount Zion Cemetery, New Lebanon, Indiana. Military services will be given by the Hymera, Shelburn and Sullivan legions, and the Sullivan VFW.
