William D. "Bill" Hawk, 76, of Terre Haute, passed away on Tuesday, March 7, 2017. Bill was born in Terre Haute to Norbert Bernard Hawk and Hallie Gertrude Gray Hawk.
He graduated from Schulte High School in 1958. He was the former co-owner of Coldwell and Co. in Terre Haute, and owner of Farrington Gallery and Frame, also located in Terre Haute. After retirement, Bill was a process server for the Vigo County Sheriff's Department. Bill was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps, serving during Vietnam.
He was a longtime member of the Breakfast Optimist Club, serving as a past president, secretary and treasurer. He was a member of the Strawberry Hill Cannoneers; Vigo County Historical Society Board of Directors, where he was a past president; Terre Haute Elks Lodge #86; and a member of the T.H. Bridge Club.
He was a baseball coach in the Terre Haute and West Terre Haute Little Leagues, including post-season coaching for some of the all-star teams. He enjoyed playing golf; bridge; and spending time with his family on Amelia Island, Fla., one of his favorite vacation destinations.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his former wife, Carol S. Morge Hawk. Bill is survived by his wife, Susan Kelley Hawk, whom he married in September of 1992; one daughter, Lisa White and her husband Greg of Greenwood, Ind.; two sons, David Hawk of Fishers, Ind., and Nathan Hawk and his wife Kim of Danville, Ind.; and six grandchildren, Kristen, Matthew and Allison White, Alexander Hawk, and Madelynn and Audrey Hawk. Bill is also survived by a brother, Jerry Hawk and his wife Susy of Terre Haute, Ind.; one nephew; mother-in-law, Wilma Kelley; two brothers-in-law; three stepsons; and three step-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 18, at the Northside Community United Methodist Church, 1075 N. Fruitridge Ave., Terre Haute, Ind. A visitation/reception will immediately follow the memorial service at the church. Lay Minister Gary Flora will be officiating.
The family suggests that, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund (vvmf.org); the Wounded Warrior Project (woundedwarriorproject.org); or a scholarship donation may be sent to the Terre Haute Breakfast Optimist Club ICO Treasurer Ed Cook, 5764 Camden Road, T.H., IN. 47805, with "Bill Hawk Memorial Fund" in the memo line.
