William Michael Byers, "Mike," 59, got his angel wings Nov. 25, 2017, in St. Vincent Hospital, with his family by his side. He was born Nov. 2, 1958, to William Byers and Loretta Wandalene (Hutson) Byers, at Union Hospital.
Michael worked as a cook in high school at IHOP, and went on to cook at Rose-Hulman for a number of years. He also was a truck driver for the County Highway Department. Michael graduated from Terre Haute North High School in 1978. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan, enjoyed watching wrestling, motocross, heavy metal music and being with friends.
Michael is survived by his father, William Byers; sister, Lisa A. Gilman; and brother-in-law, Monty Gilman of Clinton, Indiana; niece and nephew, Brittney Gilman (Dylan) and Jacob Gilman of Indianapolis; aunts, Judy Shelton, Mary Busick (Don) of Plainfield, Indiana, and Gwendolyn Hutson of Louisiana; uncle, Richard Byers of Terre Haute; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother; uncles, Gerald Hutson and James Shelton; and grandparents, Richard and Anna Moy, and Elbert and Mary Hutson.
Per Michael's wishes, Greiner Funeral Home has been entrusted with care and arrangements. Graveside services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 30, 2017, at Roselawn Memorial Park. The family suggests that, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Vincent House. They are currently needing paper towels and hand soap. Online condolences may be made at:
