William 'Bill''s Story

ROCKVILLE - William "Bill" Joseph Michael, 83, of Rockville, died Monday, Aug. 7, 2017, at his residence. He was born Jan. 21, 1934, in Union Township, in Parke County, to Clarence "Buss" Michael and Ruth Douglas Michael. He married Sheryl Spencer on Jan. 21, 1977, in Rockville.
He was a lifelong farmer, he raised and distributed seed corn for Funk's Seed in Rockville. Bill, along with his brother, George, co-owned and operated Michael Sales International Harvester Dealership in Rockville. He served on the Sale Committee for the Parke County 4-H Fair for many years. His hobbies included participating in truck and tractor pulls and he was an avid collector of International tractors and Case IH memorabilia.
He graduated from Bellmore High School in 1952. He was a member of Elks Lodge 2471, American Legion Post 48, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1752, and Parke County Young Farmers. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Sheryl Michael of Rockville; five children, Annettra Michael of Rockville, Mark Vanderheyden of Rockville, Brian Vanderheyden (Blair) of Memphis, Tenn., Lianna Willhite (Andy) of Rockville, and April Lear of Rockville; eight grandchildren, Stuart and Drew Mage,; Janice, Kiley, Amber, and Max Vanderheyden, Whitney Willhite, and Alexia Lear; 15 grea-grandchildren; a brother, Frank "Sonnie" Michael of Rockville; three sisters, Mary Lois Kelch of Crawfordsville, Janet Flock of Lafayette, and Ann McCullough of The Village, Florida.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, George Michael.
Funeral services are Thursday, Aug. 10, 2017, at 11 a.m., at Otterbein United Methodist Church; on State Road 59, south of Bellmore. Visitation is Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2017, at Otterbein United Methodist Church, 4 to 8 p.m. Burial is in Memory Garden Cemetery, Rockville, with graveside military rites by Parke County Veterans.
