Virginia Rose Meehling Shawler, lifelong resident of Marshall, Ill., passed away peacefully in her home on the morning of Oct. 11, 2017, at the age of 93. She was born on July 29, 1924, to Frank N. Meehling and Lorene Waller Meehling. She had two brothers, William F. (Bill) and Donald J. Meehling, the latter preceding her in death.
Virginia graduated from Marshall High School in 1942, and St. Mary-of-the-Woods College in 1946. On June 23, 1951, she married the only love of her life, Omer T. Shawler in Marshall. They had three children, Marjann, born in 1952 and married to Christopher (Kip) Palmer, David Frank, born in 1955 and Donald born in 1961.
Virginia was a parishioner at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Marshall.
Omer and her three children survive, along with her brother, Bill; and numerous nieces and nephews. Virginia, always sharing a smile, grew old gracefully and was much loved by many.
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. CDT Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Fathers Augustine Koomson and Chris Brey as celebrants. Burial will be in the Marshall Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Pearce Funeral Home with the rosary recited at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial gifts be given in Virginia's name to the Marshal Schools Foundation or St. Mary-of-the-Woods College.
