Uyrel "Bud" J. Bicking, 90, of Brazil, passed away at IU Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, on Dec. 28, 2017. He was born Aug. 10, 1927, in Minnesota, the son of John and Flora Bicking.
In 1953 Bud was hired by Bob Ireland to transfer from Minnesota as one of the six member team to start the Bemis plant in Terre Haute which opened in 1956. He retired from Bemis in 1989 after 36 years of service to the company. Following retirement from Bemis, he worked for Area 7 as a maintenance engineer. He had a mowing service for the "old people". He also worked for Cauldron Vending Service at Great Dane for many years as well.
He coached baseball and little league sports several years as the kids were growing up. He worked with Benwood Mount Lebanon Church making mats for the homeless. In the 60s and 70s he worked with Junior Achievement as a mentor for students.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Flora Bicking; his wife, Della Bicking; a son, Steven Bicking; and siblings, Zenes, Thelma, Kenny, Vivian and Ellen.
Bud is survived by his children, Sherry McClain, Sandy Hofmann and husband Ray, and Scott Bicking and wife Jamie, all of Brazil; daughter-in-law, Jo Ellen Bicking; grandchildren, Chris Deckard, Cortney Cooksey, Matthew Lunsford, Aaron Bicking, Aarica Poe, Rachel Hofmann, Colte Bicking, and Paige Bicking; great-grandchildren, Libby, Avery, Kristin, Tiara, Elijah, Isabella, Connor, Alexis, and Macy; a sister, Phyllis Danielson of Mora, Minn.; as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family members and friends.
Services will be at French Funeral Home, 421 E. National Ave., Brazil, on Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2018, at 1 p.m. Burial will follow at Summit Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until time of services. To light a candle in his memory, visit: www.frenchfuneralhome.com
