Thelma's Story

Thelma LaVerne (Edington) White, 93, of Terre Haute, and formerly of New Goshen, passed away at 12:20 p.m. Tuesday, March 6, 2018, in Signature Healthcare. She was born in New Goshen, on Sept. 6, 1924, to Pearl Edington and Frances Sharp Edington.
Thelma was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee White Sr.; three sisters; and one brother.
Thelma is survived by seven children, Roberta Garwood, Betty Nichols, Linda Moore, Nancy Shifflett, Robert White, Jr., Patricia Guinn, and Donald White; 12 grandchildren, David Johnson, Tommy Nichols, Steve Nichols, Donna Martin, Mark Nichols, Lisa Morris, David Childress, Amy Steenstra, Rob Guinn, Daniel Elfguinn, Crystal Petty, and Don White II; 22 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Anna Belle Hargis Hoopengarner.
Thelma enjoyed music, sewing, painting, writing, games and other hobbies. However, what she valued most of all was sharing her Christian faith through love, laughter, the joy of living, and teaching Sunday School. She attended Sugar Grove Free Methodist Church and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 972 Auxiliary for over 30 years.
She is leaving us with the gift of so many precious memories to cherish that she will be forever loved and never forgotten.
Funeral services will be at Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 North Third Street, West Terre Haute, on Saturday, March 10, 2018, at 10 a.m. with Pastors Andy Fishback and Monte Vincent officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant View Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Friday from 4 until 8 p.m. in the funeral home.
