Terry E. Mahalek, 62, of Terre Haute, went to be with the Lord, surrounded by her family, on the evening of July 31, 2017. She left this world and the life that she lived with style and class.
Terry moved to Terre Haute in 1978 from California and married the love of her life, Mike Mahalek, on Dec. 29, 1979. She was born on Sept. 5, 1954, on North Island, California, to the late Charles R. and Lea C. Lowe. Terry is survived by her loving husband of 37 years, Mike; younger sister, Jeanne Bell (Carter); sons, Sean Pearce (Crystal), Zach Pearce (Miko Lukas) and Chris Mahalek (Amanda Hartley); daughter, Dawn Hulbert (Jeff); and grandchildren, Branden, Adam and Sarah Pearce, Madeline and Harrison Hulbert, and Emerson Mahalek. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Martha Simpson (Earnie), Suse Mahalek and Kathy Mahalek; several cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews; and an abundant extended family.
Terry enjoyed playing softball in her younger years. Her favorite hobbies were golf, fishing, bowling, cooking, gardening and especially reading. She felt the most peace and love when spending time with her children, grandchildren, special friend Kimi and granddogs. She also enjoyed her time spent in Pine Island, Florida, where she made many loving friendships. Terry was a member of many golf, bowling and softball leagues throughout the years. She was a member of the Sycamore County Club, the Elks, the American Legion Post 104 and the Marine Corps League.
Although Terry had a long battle with cancer, she always shared a smile and a chuckle with everyone who visited, no matter how ill she was feeling. Everyone who had the privilege of having Terry in their lives were inspired by her courage, huge heart and bravery throughout her illness. Terry always put others before herself. She was easy to love and was loved by many.
Private graveside services will be held at Roselawn Memorial Park. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Special thanks go out to Tammi, Terry's Hospice nurse from Heart to Heart Hospice Care; son-in-law, Jeff Hulbert; and grandson, Branden Pearce, for helping Mike in her final days. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Catholic Charities of Terre Haute. Online condolences can be made at:
