On Dec. 25, 1950, in Kansas City, Kans., Fred and Phyllis Jane (Longstreth) Cox welcomed the first of their five children Susan Jane Cox. Susan's siblings were Sandy, Betsy, Johnny, and Brenda. As a young girl, Susan and her family moved to Terre Haute where she graduated from Gerstmeyer Tech in 1968.
Susan married Larry W. Atterson on March 3, 1972. Together, they raised four children, Larry, Eric, Melissa and Melinda. Susan graduated from Indiana State University in 1985, with a R.N. degree in Nursing. Susan worked as the director of nursing at several area nursing homes. Currently she had been working as the area manager for Help at Home, home health care. In her free time she loved being outdoors fishing, camping and gardening. She also enjoyed sewing, canning, baking and spending time with family and friends. She was a member and past worthy matron with Prairieton Lodge 163, past queen with the Daughters of the Nile, and past guardian with Job's Daughters at Bethel 2 lodge.
Susan is survived by her husband, Larry Atterson of Brazil; her father, Fred Cox and wife Pam of Seelyville; four children, Larry Atterson and wife Tonya of Indianapolis, Eric Atterson and wife Amy of Terre Haute, Melissa Allison and fiancé Sean Crouse of Clinton, and Melinda Killion and husband Grant of Terre Haute; grandchildren, Elijah Atterson, Davis Atterson, Rylee Atterson, Harper Atterson, David Allison, Kendalyn Allison, Austin Allison, Kelsie Rutledge, Brieanne Rutledge, Morgan Rutledge, Micheal Hay, Hannah Sears and Luke Welty; a great-granddaughter Lydia Sears; brothers and sisters, Sandy Fry and husband Jack of Texas, Johnny Cox of Terre Haute, Betsy Paauwe and husband Engle of Texas, and Brenda Cox and husband Carey Oxendine of Terre Haute; as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Phyllis Jane Cox.
Services will be at French Funeral Home, 421 E. National Ave., Brazil, Indiana 47834, Thursday, Nov. 16, 2017, at 7 p.m., with Pastor Mark Atterson officiating.
