Steven J. Reese, 68, passed away on Monday, Dec. 12, 2017, in Petoskey, Mich.
He was born in Linton, Ind., on Aug. 19, 1949, to Marcia M. Reese and Arthur G. Reese II. Steve graduated from Shakamak High School in Jasonville, Ind., where he marched in the band and was a member of the National Honor Society.
Steve attended Indiana University and then entered the travel industry, first leading tours and cruises, then owning two travel agencies in San Francisco, Calif. He was so successful that he sold his companies and was able to retire at age 49.
Upon retirement Steve first returned to his native state of Indiana, settling in Bloomington. While vacationing in northern Michigan Steve found and fell in love with Harbor Springs, first purchasing summer cottage and then buying a year-round home.
In August 2016, Steve was diagnosed with late-stage liver cancer; after receiving treatment at the Indiana University School of Medicine Steve chose to live his life fully in his remaining time. Steve coordinated the remodeling of his Harbor Springs cottage from a skilled nursing facility in Indianapolis, Ind. He moved back into his cottage with the help of many caregivers, went on a San Francisco to Sydney, Australia, cruise and lived his life fully and joyfully.
Steve was predeceased by his father, Arthur G. Reese II; and sister, Stephanie J. Reese. He is survived by his mother, Marica M. Reese; nephews, Christopher Fox and Mathew Fox; and great-niece, Kirstin Fox.
Please join us for a gathering of friends at the New York Restaurant, Harbor Springs, from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 16.
