Sister Louise  Schroeder

Sister Louise Schroeder died on Jan. 19, 2019, in Lourdes Hall, St. Mary-of-the-Woods, Ind. She was born on Nov. 4, 1925, in Jasper, Ind., to Edward and Theresa Reyling Schroeder, and was baptized Margaret Ann.
Sister Louise entered the Congregation of the Sisters of Providence on Jan. 5, 1943, and received the name Sister Edward Louise. She professed Final Vows Aug. 15, 1950.
She earned a bachelor's degree from Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College and a master's degree from Indiana State University. Of her 76 years as a Sister of Providence, she ministered as a primary teacher for 46 years in schools in Indiana, Illinois and California.
Retiring from teaching, she came to the motherhouse in 1991 and served in the transportation office, mail room and phone room, as well as local treasurer for sisters in Providence Health Care. Beginning in 2016, she dedicated herself totally to the ministry of prayer.
Sister Louise was a gentle, loving person with a delightful sense of humor. She was patient in her dealings with others and generously gave her energy and talents to whatever contributed to the common good.
Sister is survived by a sister, Sister Marie David Schroeder, SP, of St. Mary-of-the-Woods; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by sisters, Pearl Schroeder, Helen Schroeder, Sunny Kunkel and Bernadine Livers; and one brother, Roman Schroeder.
The wake is on Thursday, Jan.24, in the Church of the Immaculate Conception, beginning at 9 a.m., with the commentary at 11 a.m. The mass of Christian burial with the Rev. Daniel R. Hopcus presiding will immediately follow the commentary. Burial is in the cemetery of the Sisters of Providence. DeBaun Funeral Homes and Crematory assisted with arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of Providence, 1 Sisters of Providence, St. Mary-of-the-Woods, IN 47876.
