Russell "Rusty" E. Schnurpel Jr., 66, of Terre Haute, passed away unexpectedly Oct. 22, 2017, at his home. He was born May 17, 1951, in Clay County, the son of Russell E. Schnurpel Sr. and Sarah Edna (McKinney) Schnurpel. He graduated from Brazil High School, class of 1969. He last worked as a security guard.
Rusty was an avid reader and was a frequent visitor at the public library. He enjoyed all types of music, from classical to Pink Floyd to Bob Dylan. He played chess and enjoyed the challenge of thinking through the chess moves.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his children, Russell E. Schnurpel III and Kelly Fiddler, both of Terre Haute; grandchildren, Eric Fiddler and Sapphire Fiddler; great-grandchild, Mila Howard; sisters, Janet Recknor Enyeart of Terre Haute and Rhonda White (Chris) of Missouri; brothers, Charlie Schnurpel (Marty) of Flagstaff, Ariz., and Larry Schnurpel (Sonya) of Alabama; and many nieces, nephews and extended family including Aunt Jackie Balding and her family.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at French Funeral Home with Pastor Jeff Bridgewater officiating. Burial will follow at Summit Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Post a note of condolence at:
