Ruby's Story

Text size

Ruby Eleanor Clapp, 87, of Terre Haute, went home to be with the Lord Jesus, June 24, 2017, peacefully at home. She was the loving and devoted wife of Jim Clapp. They shared 63 years of marriage together. Ruby was born in Brazil, and was the daughter of Gianetta "Nettie" and Leonard Frost.
She graduated from Bowling Green High School and later graduated from Indiana Business College. Her employment in Terre Haute included Chesty Chip Company, Gulf Oil Corporation, Chamber of Commerce and Brown & Woodsmall Accounting Firm in Sullivan. Ruby was a diligent homemaker, gracious, loving wife and a faithful mother.
Ruby is survived by her spouse of 63 years, Jim Clapp, her sister Gianetta Wright (John) of Illinois, their sons, Tony Clapp (Michelle) of Washington, Daniel Clapp (Denise) of Kentucky, Paul Clapp (Dianna) of Terre Haute, and David Clapp (Amy) of Texas; 14 grandchildren and seen great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her two brothers and a sister. Ruby will be lovingly remembered for her gracious hospitality, warm smile and beautiful, godly spirit. For many years as a homemaker she diligently raised her four sons while maintaining a fun-filled, happy home where Godly principles were taught and thankful prayer was offered for the blessings they received. Her days were long and content fulfilling the needs of those she selflessly served. She was an avid gardener, and canned, cooked and baked with the fruits of that labor. She attended World Gospel Church with her family for 53 years. She will be remembered for her many years in the choir, teaching children's Sunday school, diligent mission-committee work and dedication of writing letters of encouragement to missionaries all over the world. She and Jim also enjoyed mission trips to Saltillo, Mexico, Hungary and extended mission trips to El Sembrador, Honduras. She served as a spiritual leader in the evangelical Alpha Course. She also labored several years reaching children's hearts for Jesus through the Child Evangelism Organization. She warmly welcomed international students to the church and worked to teach them English while also sharing the gospel and hosting them in her home for holiday parties on several occasions. She also mentored young hearts at Meadows Elementary School through Kids Hope. She had a servant's heart and will be fondly remembered by all that knew her and loved her.
A celebration of life is scheduled at 4 p.m. Friday, June 30, 2017, at World Gospel Church, 900 Gardendale Road, Terre Haute. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until service time.
